Boogeywoman

That's not as frightening as boogeyman, is it? Boogeywoman sounds like she'd wear a slick yellow jacket, have a solid dealer on speed dial and know the best late night diners.

No, we need a boogeyman, dragging away women and children. Big bad boogeyman with stringy hair and stained camisoles. Bargain bin boogeyman with chipped nails and too much eyeliner. Brash bitty boogeyman trying too hard or not hard enough, failing too hard or not hard enough.

It couldn't be a president and everyone he trusts, a ceo and everyone he owes favours, a priest and everyone covering up his sins, a coach and everyone looking the other way, a director and everyone else above the line on set. It couldn't be anyone with any power we can't take away, because then it's not a boogeyman; it's nothing but tyranny rising with the sun everyday.

Better a boogeyman to block the view. A boogeyman struggling to hold a job, a roof, a prescription, a friend, a lover, or even herself. Give her a kick; maybe you'll feel better.
